Awards

IFLTA offers numerous awards that recognize contributions and support to world language teaching and learning.

Recipients are honored every year at the IFLTA Annual Fall Conference in the Global and Multil-IN-gual Celebration of Success Gala.


We celebrate the accomplishments of our world language community with these awards:

  • I am THE NEXT World Language Teacher/Interpreter/Leader

  • I am a Pol-IN-Glot

  • Multilingual Golden Ribbon for Exemplary World Language School District

  • Distinguished World Language Advocate

  • Walter Bartz World Language Administrator

  • Inclusive Global Citizens Workforce Award for a Multinational Company or Organization

  • William Hatfield Distinguished Lifetime World Language Career

  • Mary Carr Distinguished World Language Service and Leadership

  • Plural Voices Award for Outstanding Language Department

  • Wide World Award for Distinguished Dual-Language Immersion Program

  • Exceptional World Language Event/Program/Group

  • Tom Alsop Distinguished World Language Publication/Research

The nomination deadline for the 2020 conference is September 12, 2021. Award recipients will be notified in early October.

Awards Guidelines


  1. Nominations and Self-nominations are accepted.

  2. Nominators must submit a dossier that supports the nomination.

  3. Nominees should live, work, study or be located in the state of Indiana.

  4. Nominee's personal information must be collected by the nominator.

  5. Nominator needs to submit the nominee's curriculum vitae (max 15 pages).

  6. Nominator needs to submit no more than 5 Letters of Support (e.g. students, teachers, supervisor, co-worker, principal, superintendent, school board member, parents, community member, etc.)

  7. Nominator may submit additional material (e.g. website, newspaper articles, videos, pictures, podcasts, web links) to support the nomination (no more than 10 pages/items).

  8. Nominator and Nominee will receive notification of the award and invitation to the award ceremony that will take place during the IFLTA Conference in November in Indianapolis.
