Position of Secretary
Olga Mounayar: CV
Statement: I have been a member of IFLTA for a number of years now. During these years, I have been involved in presenting at the annual conference. The association has been very helpful to me in many ways: The information that I have gathered in the newsletters was very valuable and the professional development and new material I have learned at the different sessions during the conference was very useful. I also believe that the organization has played an important role in connecting me with other teachers of French and in networking. I feel that by being a secretary for the organization, I could help out and give back to the association and its members as have been helping me out all these years. By becoming an officer, I would be actively involved in supporting and promoting IFLTA. As an officer, I will try to reach out to as many current members as possible, reminding them that our organization is there to support them in many endeavors. I will also promote the organization to non-members, urging them to join as the organization gives them the tools to promote, support and advocate their programs.
Position of 2nd Vice-President
Israel Fernando Herrera: CV
Statement: My name is Israel Fernando Herrera, a spanish Lecturer at Indiana University Spanish and Portuguese Department and an IU Honors grammar teacher in Valencia, Spain. It would be an honor for me to join the IFLTA Board as Vice President since I consider the association a valuable academic and cultural reference for all foreign language teachers in the state of Indiana. I personally see the annual IFLTA conference as a great teaching fountain since teachers always learn meaningful things to incorporate in their classes. As an IFLTA presenter I have seen the importance of sharing class experiences with other colleagues since they all contribute to improve teaching standards. As an officer I plan to defend before Indiana school boards the rights and benefits for Indiana students to have a foreign language included in their middle and high schools curricula and support the advantages they bring later on in students’ college performance. I intend to encourage portuguese and minority languages teachers from different Indiana universities to join our organization and participate in our annual conference with lectures. In general, I will seek more involvement from foreign language teachers in their first, second or third year of teaching (our rising stars) with IFLTA and keep offering the best academic tools to all those foreign language teachers in Indiana who have been part of the association for several years.
Darlene Lankenau: CV
Statement:
I humbly accept the nomination for 2nd Vice President. Having been a supporter and member of IFLTA since 1998, I served as Secretary on the Board, attended several conferences and have also presented. I believe my strong commitment to this organization is evident. As well as bringing experience to the Board, I plan to incorporate my broad teaching experiences and increase and maintain representation of those levels both on the Board and at our conferences. My experiences include: creating and implementing curriculum at the elementary and middle school level, currently teaching at the high school level, and having taught at the University level locally, therefore completing my experience in teaching a World Language from K-University levels. I also bring a familiarity of other critical languages by having participated in reading FLAP grants for the Federal Government.
More than ever we need to stand up as teaching professionals, as advocates for language learning, while we encounter challenges in education legislature. We need to continue to pursue and embark on ever-evolving strategies in foreign language education for the benefit of our students. We need to seek out opportunities to collaborate with other highly qualified foreign language educators to continue on our journey toward strengthening language education and increasing quality opportunities for our students. I, as 2nd Vice President of IFLTA, stand with our state-wide language educators as an advocate and professional and will continue to pursue those opportunities for us to march forward in pursuit of quality language education at all levels for all students. |
